Malawi Under-17 players during last year’s COSAFA Under-17 tournament

Football analyst Kim Kamau has expressed his disappointment with the decision by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to hide names of players that were called into the Under-20 camp.

Preparations for 2020 COSAFA Junior tournament that is expected take place early next month in South Africa started on Monday last week at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

But for the past week FAM has been reluctant to reveal names of players entrusted for this year’s tournament.

Commenting on the issue, Kamau suspected that the association has included over-aged players hence their refusal to reveal names.

He further said its unfortunate that the association is result oriented a thing which has been pulling football backwards in the country.

“It’s pathetic that someone is monopolizing the operations of the country’s football mother body. They need to be transparent and accountable to all Malawians, everywhere in the world Associations do not hide the call up it’s only here because maybe they have included over aged players that’s why they don’t want to reveal their names but this has been a pull factor to our football, young players with potential have been hindered opportunities to showcase their capabilities because we want eminent results,” he said

According to some sources FAM has included the likes of Hadj Wali.

The Silver Strikers man has been playing for Malawi U-20 since 2015.

The COSAFA U20 tournament is scheduled for 3-13 December in Pretoria and Malawi will face Zambia, Namibia and Comoros in group stages.
