Part of the action between Silver Strikers nd Karonga United

Be Forward Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira blamed his strikers as they played out a 1-1 draw away to Kamuzu Barracks in the TNM Super League.

Isaac Kaliati’s superb first-half header put Wanderers ahead in a match they dominated the whole first half but Kamuzu Barracks equalised eight minutes before the final whistle curtesy of Peter Cholopi’s own goal to deny Wanderers their first three points of the season.

After the match, Mpinganjira was unhappy with his lack of fire power upfront.

“We played well and we dominated everything but am disappointed for our failure to win the match,” he said

Asked the position that let them down he replied: “I am impressed with the defense and the midfield but our forwards did not utilise all the chance we created. We had a number of chances in the first half had it been we scored two or more we could have victors by now.”

His counterpart Ted Kalinda expressed happiness with his team’s fighting spirit.

“You know, we were trailing in the first half but after making some changes we managed to equalize. Honestly, I am impressed with the fighting spirit from my boys today.”

Wanderers and Karonga United plaued out for a draw

At Silver Stadium, Danken Nyoni scored twice to help Silver Strikers overcome a stubborn Karonga United 3-1.

Patrick Macheso give the Bankers a lead in the second half after a stalemate first half but a moment later Khumbo Msowoya levelled the scores.

In the closing stages of the match, Danken Nyoni put Silver Strikers ahead again as he scored from close range before he completed his brace two minutes before stoppage time.

MacDonald Mtetemera admitted that Karonga gave them a tough game but he praised his charges for the win.

“Indeed, Karonga played well. They assembled a good team but I am happy for my players for today’s win, we need to win home games because away games are always unpredictable,” he said.

On his part, Karonga coach Dan Dzimkambani blamed poor officiation for their defeat.

“We played well and we deserved a win but the referee spoiled our day he was biased and one of his poor decisions led to Silver’s second goal. Tomorrow we will play Blue Eagles at Nankhaka if the officiation will not be biased, I hope we will register a win.”

In other games, Mzuzu Warriors beat Mighty Tigers 2-1. Taniel Mhango scored twice for the hosts while Kalanzo Zonda was on target for Tigers.

And in Blantyre, Red Lions maintained their top spot after a one-nil victory over Chitipa United curtesy of Henry Kamunga’s goal.
